harborview: deep dive

This is Harborview's mission statement. It outlines their goals, values, and history. They treat many populations that often struggle to find care or are turned away at other medical facilities. In a society of privatized healthcare and limited access, Harborview is akin to a sanctuary for those in need.

In preparation for the London Study Abroad program, our program coordinator, Dr. Mara Bann, generously gave us the opportunity to shadow her during her daily rounds, if we so desired. This was actually my first time shadowing, and it was honestly an incredible experience. It just further cemented the fact that I knew I wanted to go into the medical field, and being able to see it all up close and personal was something different and amazing.

I also learned a lot about Harborview itself, as that is where she works. I knew it was the number one trauma center in the area, but I didn't realize how much work the hospital does that goes unseen or unappreciated. As the only "safety net" hospital in the area, they are truly overloaded at all times, but they spare aid for no one. It's genuinely so impressive.
