As an elective and a "fun" class to balance out my other STEM classes, I decided to take this course on Korean Culture and Cinema Studies. I was hoping for something relevant to my culture, and I thought a film class would be a nice reprieve from science and math. I didn't know that it would be about the famous Korean director, Park Chan-wook, but that was a happy surprise. In fact, this has easily been one of my favorite classes I've ever taken in college.

I've always loved literary analysis, but this class has given be the tools to do film analysis as well. I've gotten the opportunity to expand my knowledge of Korean films, and I've become very familiar with Park Chan-wook's work as a director. It is quite serendipitous that his work happens to be right up my alley. One of my favorite movies of all time is Handmaiden, directed by him. Many of the other films we've watched for this class have made their way into my top films list as well. Taking this class has really opened my eyes to the joys of film studies, and it's motivated me to take other film classes as well.
