community and new beginnings

In January, I was accepted to the Writing/Editorial Committee of Homeroom, a media-focused RSO that aims to uplift Asian-American voices in art.
I had been introduced to Homeroom through one of my Fall Quarter FIG leaders, who was a club officer. It was around that time that I was longing for a sense of community, especially with the first quarter coming to a close. Up until then, I'd mostly stuck close to my best friend from high school, but the worries of becoming overly reliant on her, of letting her do all the heavy-lifting because I was too afraid to step out of my comfort zone, were something that always lived in the back of my mind. Luckily, Homeroom sounded like the perfect opportunity to expand my horizons. I attended the first few meetings that were open to the public, and when applications were announced, I eagerly sent mine in.
I was really excited about this—both because of the chance to work on my writing skills in a more organized setting, and because of the prospect of meeting and working with new people. I was very proud to have been picked as an applicant, and I looked forward to being an official part of Homeroom.
